Discuss about the Need of Irrigation System in Pakistan
Irrigation needs in Pakistan
Details of Cultivated Area
In Pakistan, 78% of the cultivable area is irrigated and 22% of the area is still dependent on rainfall and this is a means of keeping the yield per hectare low.
Due to the limited amount of irrigation water, the farmer leaves the crop in his field and leaves it vacant in the second crop so that the land can regain its nutrients and be re-cultivated.
The Need for Irrigation
Geographically, Pakistan exists in such a way that it does not rain uniformly over all its areas. Some places receive an average of two inches of rain per year and some places receive an average of 40 inches of rain per year. Even if it rains, if there is no alternative irrigation system in our country, it is estimated that about 90% of our area is climate-barren and barren, or even if there was agriculture on it, a very modest type of agriculture could be expected. In line with this need, an irrigation system has been set up in our country so that we can improve our farming activities.
Importance of Irrigation
High Quality of Life
The importance of water for agriculture is undeniable as it requires blood circulation in the human body. When our farmers have access to full access to water, their production naturally increases by at least 20% in our areas. Where the herdsmen arrive on time and the farmer benefits from the rains, the yield per acre automatically increases. Our farmer's income increases and he gains the ability to raise his standard of living. ۔
Better investment opportunities
Increasing farmers yield per acre increases his income. After meeting his daily expenses, he can save something. He can use this savings to invest in his agriculture from his roof. He can dig wells. He can install tube wells, and buy tracts, so that he can do many of the same things that are called investing in economic reform and which can further increase production.
The First Method of Cultivation
With the increase in the income of our farmers, the two feel a revolution in their lives. They go to the cities for knowledge and after getting important education like engineering and medicine, they become better citizens of the country. He buys new luxuries. Facilities like radio, TV, computer, fridge, motor car, etc. change his way of life. He tries to move with the times by leaving the traditional and traditional way of life.
In this journey, he also learns ways in which his agriculture is based on modern lines and thus increases the use of modern technology in agriculture throughout the country.
High Level of Employment
Prosperity in the agricultural sector also increases secondary occupations in rural areas. The farmer not only engages in farming but also spends his spare time and money on secondary agricultural activities such as poultry, fishing and dairy farming and livestock. All I do is create new avenues of wealth in the country. Other people are employed in these jobs, which raises the level of employment.
Decline in Domestic Imports and Promotion of Exports
The increase in the supply of agricultural commodities helps in the supply of those commodities in the country which are imported earlier due to shortage of production. The reduction in imports also reduces the burden of foreign exchange charity on the country. If there is further increase in production, it can be earned by exporting it abroad. In this way, the continuous foreign exchange earnings can be used for economic development. Machines can be imported into the country from which our factories can be set up.
Promoting Passion
Nations that are prosperous and their business life goes on in an orderly manner, their people love everything about their country, they love the quiet of their country, and they are proud of the products of their country. They work all the time for the development of their nation. Such nations do not have to reach out to others. They see the problems of their country in a positive way and make the greatest sacrifices for the welfare and survival of their country. I do not think that such a country suffers from internal disturbances and external disturbances and it progresses to Karachi.
Sources of Irrigation
Citizens have different sources of irrigation in our country. In the northern parts of the country, in the snow-capped mountains, in the country, we have drained the city from the rivers and some of these canals are perinnial medicine and some Non-Perinnial canals irrigate both our species, namely Rabb and Khar F, because they flow all year round, whereas non-permanent canals are only activated for a certain period of time. It is said that a particular crop is intended to irrigate an area or water is released in these canals when the flood pressure on the rivers increases and the population is in serious danger. The area under cultivation is 54.42% irrigated by canals.
Tube-Well
After canals, tube wells are the second largest source of irrigation. Both public and private tube wells are operating in Pakistan. These tube wells are powered by both electricity and diesel. More area is irrigated than tube wells.
Well
The water from wells is not as plentiful to our crops as it is from canals and tube wells. This is probably because the water in wells is not so plentiful that it is used for large scale irrigation. It is also possible that since wells are used to draw water from wells, these wells have to be stopped after some time because animals also need rest. In our irrigation system, such crops are irrigated more than wells. There are those which are usually sold in the regional market, such as all kinds of vegetables or pulses, etc., which are not cultivated in a large area. However, the area irrigated by the wells did not increase.
Pond
The practice of pond irrigation is very rare in our country. Probably our farmers do not have the tradition of digging ponds and collecting water. Perhaps they are not aware that the water stored in the pond is not only used for irrigation. In fact, cattle drink water, ducks can be raised and fish can be reared in them. Since the heat is intense in most parts of Pakistan, the reason for not having ponds in these areas is that the water evaporates quickly. It dries up the pond for a variety of reasons, including the fact that the pond, which is immediately irrigated by the pond, is very small or non-existent. This area was 1 lakh hectares in the beginning, which gradually decreased and became very small.
